The health and biomedical devices programme supports national staff on different aspects related to effective management and rational use of health technologies, in particular medical devices. The programme activities include:

advice countries on all medical device aspects including but not limited to national strategy, policies, quality, safety, management and use;

provide an integrated system for national data collection, storage and analysis as well as dissemination of information and knowledge in support of medical device assessment and management;

increase regional and global cooperation in support of national programme objectives;

develop training modules using WHO developed technical guidelines and evidence-based advocacy materials for the effective selection and use of medical devices during their entire life span;

strengthen partnerships and collaborations between countries and relevant regional and/or global authorities, agencies, organizations, industry, and institutions.
