Pakistan applauds WHO support in facilitating access to the COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX Facility

31 August 2021 – During a visit to a COVID-19 vaccination facility Pakistan’s Honorable Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi applauded WHO's efforts in facilitating access to the COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX Facility. 

COVAX is the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, which is a ground-breaking global collaboration to accelerate the development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines. COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.

The Minister also expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, of WHO's support to the development of COVID-19 strategic preparedness and response plans for COVID-19 pandemic.  

WHO remains committed to its provision of technical support to Pakistan to strengthen the Government's response to COVID-19.
