WHO Representative visits COVID-19 vaccination centre and pledges support to strengthen services

3 June 2021 – WHO Representative to Pakistan Dr Palitha Mahipala, accompanied by WHO Expanded Programme on Immunization Team Lead Dr Osama Mere visited a COVID-19 vaccination facility in F-9 Park, Islamabad, at the invitation of the District Health Officer of Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the operational capacity of the vaccination facility to expand the age bracket of those eligible for COVID-19 vaccination to 30 years of age and older.

Dr Mahipala expressed his appreciation of the Government of Pakistan's efforts in expanding the capacity of the vaccination facility which he said would go a long way in improving vaccination coverage and access to vaccines in Islamabad. Dr Mahipala commended the staff for their dedicated service and pledged WHO’s support in strengthening services at the vaccination centre.
