Universal health coverage:

everyone, everywhere

UHC means that all individuals and communities receive the health services they need without suffering financial hardship

This is a challenge in our Region with many countries experiencing complex humanitarian emergencies, affecting over 40 million people, with between 55% and 60% of the world’s refugees originating from this Region.

In the Region, World Health Day this year is placing a special focus on UHC for refugees and migrants.

The WHO Regional Office provides support for health system strengthening to the 22 countries of the Region to accelerate their move towards universal health coverage as strong health systems are essential to achieve UHC.
