SUN Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition reactivated in Sudan

2 November 2022 – On 24 October 2022, the SUN Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition was reactivated during an event held in Khartoum. The event was jointly organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), SUN Secretariat of Sudan, Federal Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Affairs, and the acting chair of the Alliance, the nongovernmental organization Al-Manar.

The objective of the workshop was to reactivate the Alliance and orient participants on collective efforts needed for nutrition through mobilizing national and subnational civil society organizations at community level to contribute to improving the nutritional status of people in Sudan.

Sudan joined the Scaling Up Nutrition movement in 2015, which has 5 networks (civil society, donors, business, the United Nations and academia. WHO is currently a member of the SUN United Nations network and is committed to supporting the SUN Civil Society Alliance.

Dr Abid Ni’ma Saeed, WHO Representative in Sudan, joined Dr Haitham, acting Federal Minister of Health, Alhaj Bashir Abdallah, Representative of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Dr Salah Omer, representative of the Federal Humanitarian Aid Commission, and Dr Magda Mohammed Ali, acting Country Director for Al Manar, in the event. Dr Ni’ma reiterated WHO’s commitment to continuing to support the Alliance, jointly with the Federal Ministry of Health, SUN Secretariat, Ministry of Social Affairs, Civil Society Alliance, Save the Children and the Global Civil Society Network.
