Khartoum, 19 March, 2023 – A shipment of emergency health supplies funded by USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA/USAID) and covering the needs of 550 000 beneficiaries for a period of 3 months landed at Khartoum airport on 16 March for immediate distribution to BHA partners in Sudan’s emergency-affected states. 

This generous contribution will allow NGO partners to provide life-saving health and nutritional services for vulnerable communities in high-risk states and localities. The delivery includes 520 emergency kits of different modules along with essential medicines and consumables for trauma care, as the country is experiencing frequent intercommunal violence and armed conflicts in several high-risk areas. 

“The generous contribution by BHA/USAID has allowed the WHO Office in Sudan to further expand its humanitarian and health assistance to those who need it most in affected areas. The arrival of the health emergency supplies comes at a time when the people of Sudan are facing concurrent natural disasters, intercommunal conflicts and simultaneous disease outbreaks,” stated Dr Ni’ma Saeed Abid, WHO Representative in Sudan. 

The availability of these supplies at the localities affected by emergencies will enable health workers to deliver essential life-saving services to those in need, thereby avoiding preventable disease and death, especially at a time when Sudan faces complex challenges with access to international funding in the context of a protracted, ever-worsening, humanitarian situation.
