Down Syndrome Research Prize
The Down Syndrome Research Prize Foundation in the Eastern Mediterranean Region is one of several Foundation awards, administered by the World Health Organization. The Foundation was established to award a prize to one or more persons, or one or more nongovernment organizations or other institutions, that have made outstanding contributions to Down Syndrome-related research, and a grant to one or more persons, or one or more nongovernment organizations or other institutions to undertake research in the same field. The specific criteria that shall be applied in the assessment of the work done by the candidates, in the case of the Prize, and of the proposed research, in the case of the grant, shall be determined by the Foundation Committee. The Administrator may propose criteria for consideration of the Foundation Committee.
Award guidelines
The Down Syndrome Prize consists of a bronze medal and a cash prize estimated at roughly US$ 2000, and a grant. The grant is awarded when the income generated by the capital of the Foundation is sufficient and/or funded from designated contributions accepted by the Foundation to cover the cost of awarding the grant. The Prize shall be awarded for an outstanding contribution to Down Syndrome-related research. The Grant shall be awarded to a person or institution to strengthen their capability to attain leadership in Down Syndrome research.
The prize and/or grant may be made to a person or an institution; current and former WHO staff members shall not be eligible to receive the prize.
Nomination of candidates to receive the prize or grant may be made by any national health, education or social administration of a Member State within the Eastern Mediterranean Region or any former recipient of the prize or grant. All nominations shall be accompanied by details of the person or institution nominated, including accomplishments in Down Syndrome-related research. For the Grant, a research proposal on how the grant will be used should be submitted, addressing any eligibility criteria. Such research proposals may be revised by the Committee before approval.
Nomination of candidates for the Prize may be submitted on the basis of accomplishments in one or several of the following fields:
A significant contribution to the care of people with Down Syndrome in the Eastern Mediterranean Region;
Valued research published in medical or other scientific journals;
Provision of special medical services to enhance the capability of people with Down Syndrome;
Promotion and establishment of specialized Down Syndrome centres;
Outstanding success in integrating people with Down Syndrome into the community, or the provision of material and moral support to families and staff working with people with Down Syndrome in various areas;
Remarkable achievement by a person with Down Syndrome who has realized their personal and cognitive potential, attaining a high level of ability, skills or education enabling them to undertake daily life tasks and serve others with the Syndrome.
Nominations for the Grant can be submitted for candidates who have already accomplished one or more of the achievements listed under item 4, and have the potential for significant further achievements after benefiting from the Grant. A report shall be submitted by the Grantee to the Committee upon completion of the study grant.
Submissions should be made using the appropriate application form in Arabic, English or French, signed and endorsed by the Minister of Health, no later than 31 July 2025.

Prix de la Fondation pour la Recherche sur le Syndrome de Down dans la Région de la Méditerranée orientale 2025
Le Prix de la Fondation pour la Recherche sur le Syndrome de Down dans la Région de la Méditerranée orientale est l’un des prix décernés par une Fondation, sous administration de l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé.
La Fondation a été instituée dans le but de décerner un prix à une ou plusieurs personnes ou organisations non gouvernementales ou autres institutions ayant apporté une contribution exceptionnelle dans le domaine de la recherche sur le syndrome de Down ainsi qu’une Subvention à une ou plusieurs personnes ou organisations non gouvernementales ou autres institutions pour des travaux de recherche qui seront entrepris dans le même domaine. Les critères spécifiques appliqués à l'évaluation des travaux des candidats, dans le cas du Prix, et de la proposition de recherche, dans le cas de la Subvention, seront définis par le Comité de la Fondation. L’administrateur peut proposer des critères qui devront être pris en compte par ledit Comité.
Directives pour l’attribution
Le Prix pour la Recherche sur le Syndrome de Down consiste en une médaille de bronze, une somme d’argent estimée à environ 2000 dollars des États-Unis d’Amérique et une subvention. Cette dernière est accordée lorsque les revenus générés par le capital de la Fondation sont suffisants et/ou financés par des contributions désignées acceptées par la Fondation pour couvrir le coût de l'octroi de la Subvention. Ledit Prix est décerné pour récompenser une contribution exceptionnelle dans le domaine de la recherche liée au syndrome de Down. La Subvention est attribuée à une personne ou à une institution afin de renforcer leur capacité à se placer au premier rang dans le domaine de la recherche sur le syndrome de Down.
Le Prix et/ou la Subvention peu(ven)t être remis(e) à une personne ou une institution ; les membres du personnel de l’OMS, actuels et anciens, ne sont pas éligibles pour recevoir le Prix.
La désignation de candidats pour l'attribution du Prix ou de la Subvention peut être effectuée par toute administration nationale œuvrant dans les domaines sanitaire, éducatif ou social d'un État Membre de la Région de la Méditerranée orientale ou par tout ancien lauréat/bénéficiaire du Prix ou de la Subvention. Toutes les désignations doivent être accompagnées d’informations complètes sur la personne ou l'institution désignée, notamment les réalisations dans le domaine de la recherche liée au syndrome de Down. En ce qui concerne la Subvention, une proposition de recherche sur la façon dont la subvention sera utilisée, abordant tous les critères d’éligibilité, doit être soumise. Ce document peut être révisé par le Comité avant approbation.
La désignation de candidats pour le Prix est possible en se basant sur leurs réalisations dans un ou plusieurs des domaines suivants :
Une contribution significative au domaine de la prise en charge des personnes atteintes du syndrome de Down dans la Région de la Méditerranée orientale ;
Des travaux de recherche valorisés ayant été publiés dans des revues médicales ou autres revues scientifiques ;
La prestation de services médicaux spéciaux pour renforcer les capacités des personnes atteintes du syndrome de Down;
La promotion et la création de centres spécialisés dans la prise en charge du syndrome de Down ;
Un succès notoire dans l'intégration des personnes atteintes du syndrome de Down dans la communauté, ou la mise à disposition d'un soutien matériel et moral aux familles et au personnel travaillant auprès de personnes atteintes du syndrome de Down dans divers domaines ;
Une réalisation remarquable d’une personne atteinte du syndrome de Down ayant développé son potentiel personnel et cognitif, en acquérant un haut niveau de capacité, de compétences ou d'éducation lui permettant d'entreprendre des tâches de la vie quotidienne et de servir d'autres personnes atteintes du syndrome, ou le rôle joué par cette personne à cet égard.
Il peut être proposé de désigner, aux fins de cette Subvention, des personnes ayant déjà accompli une ou plusieurs des réalisations énumérées au point 4 et ayant le potentiel d'obtenir d'autres réalisations importantes après avoir bénéficié de la dite Subvention. Un rapport sera soumis par le bénéficiaire au Comité au terme de la Subvention de recherche.
Les soumissions doivent être effectuées en utilisant le formulaire de candidature approprié en anglais, arabe ou français, signé et approuvé par le Ministre de la Santé, au plus tard le 31 juillet 2025.

مؤسسة جائزة بحوث متلازمة داون في إقليم شرق المتوسط هي واحدة من عدة مؤسسات للجوائز تديرها منظمة الصحة العالمية. وقد أُنشئت المؤسسة بغرض منح جائزة لشخص واحد أو أكثر، أو منظمة واحدة أو أكثر من المنظمات غير الحكومية أو المؤسسات الأخرى، ممن قدموا إسهامًا بارزًا في البحوث المتعلقة بمتلازمة داون، وتقديم منحة إلى شخص أو أكثر، أو منظمة أو أكثر من المنظمات غير الحكومية أو المؤسسات الأخرى، لإجراء بحوث في المجال نفسه. وتحدِّد لجنة المؤسسة المعايير الخاصة التي ينبغي الأخذ بها في تقيـيم الأعمال التي أنجزها المرشَّحون، في حالة الجائزة، وتقييم البحوث المقتـرحة في حالة المنحة. ويجوز للمسؤول الإداري أن يقترح معايير لكي تنظر فيها لجنة المؤسسة.
المبادئ التوجيهية لمنح الجائزة
تتألف جائزة متلازمة داون من ميدالية برونزية، وجائزة نقدية قدرها ألفا دولار أمريكي تقريبًا، ومنحة. وتُمنَح المنحة عندما يكون الدخل الناتج عن رأس مال المؤسسة كافيًا و/أو عند تمويلها من المساهمات المحددة التي تقبلها المؤسسة لتغطية تكلفة منْحها. وتُمنح الجائزة تقديرًا لمساهمة بارزة في البحوث المتعلقة بمتلازمة داون، أما المنحة فتُقدَّم لشخص أو مؤسسة لتعزيز القدرة على تحقيق الريادة في أبحاث متلازمة داون.
يجوز منح الجائزة و/أو المنحة لشخص أو مؤسسة؛ لكن لا يحق لموظفي منظمة الصحة العالمية، سواء الحاليُّون أو السابقون، الحصول عليها.
يجوز لأي إدارة صحية، أو تعليمية، أو اجتماعية وطنية في إحدى الدول الأعضاء بإقليم شرق المتوسط، أو أي شخص سبق له الفوز بالجائزة تسمية مُرشَّحين لنَيْل الجائزة أو المنحة، على أن تُشفَع جميع الترشيحات بتفاصيل عن الشخص المرشَّح أو المؤسسة المرشَّحة تشمل الإنجازات في البحوث المتعلقة بمتلازمة داون. وأما المنحة، فينبغي تقديم مقترح بحثي يوضح طريقة الاستفادة منها، مع بيان انطباق أي معايير للأهلية. ويجوز للَّجنة مراجعة هذه المقترحات البحثية قبل الموافقة عليها.
يجوز تسمية المرشحين لنَيْل الجائزة استنادًا إلى إنجازاتهم في مجال واحد أو أكثر من المجالات الآتية:
المساهمة البارزة في رعاية المصابين بمتلازمة داون في إقليم شرق المتوسط؛
البحوث القيِّمة المنشورة في المجلات الطبية أو غيرها من المجلات العلمية الأخرى؛
تقديم خدمات طبية خاصة لتعزيز قدرات المصابين بمتلازمة داون؛
الدعوة لأهمية المراكز المتخصصة في متلازمة داون وإنشاء مثل تلك المراكز؛
النجاح الباهر في إدماج المصابين بمتلازمة داون في المجتمع، أو في تقديم الدعم المادي والمعنوي لأسر المصابين بمتلازمة داون والعاملين معهم في مختلف المجالات؛
إنجاز رائع لمصاب بمتلازمة داون حقق ذاته على المستويين الشخصي والمعرفي، ووصل إلى مستوى رفيع من القدرات أو المهارات أو التعليم، مكَّنه من أداء مهام الحياة اليومية وخدمة غيره من المصابين بمتلازمة داون.
يمكن تسمية مرشَّحين لنيل المنحة حققوا بالفعل إنجازًا أو أكثر من الإنجازات المذكورة في البند 4، ولديهم القدرة على تحقيق إنجازات أخرى مهمة بعد الاستفادة من المنحة. ويقدم الحاصل على المنحة تقريرًا إلى اللجنة عند انتهاء المنحة.
ويجب تقديم الترشيحات على النموذج المخصص لذلك بالعربية أو الإنجليزية أو الفرنسية، على أن يكون النموذج موقعًا ومعتمدًا من وزير الصحة، في موعد لا يتجاوز 31 يوليو 2025.
