First time reviewers
If this is your first time accessing the online system, please see the instructions below
EMHJ has introduced a web-based submission and peer review system (Editorial Manager, developed by Aries Systems and used by over 3000 journals) with the aim of streamlining the workflow of EMHJ and providing an easy, user-friendly mechanism for authors to submit and track their manuscripts and reviewers to deliver their review comments. Peer review will continue to be double-blinded.
We are now inviting all authors who want to submit a paper to EMHJ to do so via Editorial Manager and all reviewers to submit their reviews through the system. Please be assured that the system is secure and protected by passwords, the authors are blinded to the reviewer’s identity and all reviewer comments are confidential.
Generally the Editorial Team will register reviewers onto the system. As part of launching the EMHJ online system, all reviewers in our database before launch have been automatically registered onto the new system and will have been sent a username and password.
Once registered, you can access the system at any time at Editorial Manager. You can log in by entering your user name and password and clicking on “Reviewer Login”.
Invitation to review
When you are invited to review a paper you will receive an invitation via email. This email will contain the abstract of the paper and two “deep links” which will allow you to “Accept” or “Decline” the invitation.
If you have accepted the invitation and when you wish to view the full paper, please go to Editorial Manager and enter your username and password and click on the button labelled 'Reviewer Login' as shown below.
After logging in: “Reviewer Main Menu”
Logging in will bring you to “Reviewer Main Menu”. The “Reviewer Main Menu” allows you to see at a glance how many requests for review, pending reviews and completed reviews you have in the system. Please be assured that all reviewer comments are confidential and the authors are blinded to the reviewer’s identity.
Reviewing a paper
All submissions (including all figures and tables) are converted to a single document in pdf format. Therefore, if you agree to review an article you will need an up-to-date version of Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Download Acrobat Reader free of charge and follow the instructions on that page to download and install the software.
In the “Reviewer Main Menu”, click on “Pending Assignments” to see the paper(s) you have agreed to review but have not yet reviewed.
In the “Action Links” for each paper you can:
See the full manuscript for review by clicking “View submission”. You will be asked if you wish to view or save the pdf file. If you wish to download the file, click on “Download the Manuscript (excl. all author information)” on the second page of the pdf manuscript.
Check for similar articles by clicking on “Similar Articles in Medline”. Note: subscriptions may be required to view full text articles.
Email to editorial staff at any time to notify them of any conflict of interest, alert them about your review progress or to ask questions by clicking on “Send email”. Insert your text in the template and then click on preview and send.
Submitting your review
When you are ready to make your review, in the “Action Links”, click on “Submit Recommendation”. This will take you to ‘Reviewer Recommendation and Comments”.
Please select a recommendation from the drop-down “Recommendation” menu at the top of the page.
Then enter your blinded comments for the Authors on screen or by copying and pasting from a word processing program.
Do the same with your confidential comments for the Editor.
Please then complete the 1–5 manuscript rating for each item.
