Workshop on reproductive and maternal health packages

17 March 2019 – The WHO country office in Libya, in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and the Ministry of Health of Libya, organized a 4-day national workshop on reproductive and maternal health packages of interventions, based on WHO updated recommendations.

The workshop took place from 11 to 14 March 2019 to introduce recently updated WHO guidelines on preconception care, family planning, antenatal care and  intrapartum care to 40 participants, including reproductive health policy-makers, programme managers, health providers, academia, researchers, gynaecologists and representatives of the professional midwives association from different regions of Libya. Representatives of UNICEF, the United Nations Population Fund, International Organization for Migration and WHO Regional Office and country offices.

The workshop discussed the adopton of WHO updated packages of interventions for preconception care, family planning, antenatal care and intrapartum care in Libya, as well as updated participants on key linkages to be strengthened for better integration of reproductive and maternal care services along the continuum of care.

Participants endorsed the package of interventions in line with the updated recommendations and a recently developed training manual for master trainers on implementing the package of interventions.

The Ministry of Health expressed its intention to implement  the WHO key recommendations regarding women’s health at community, primary, secondary and tertiary health service levels. In addition, it presented its comprehensive and integrated plan of action which delineates strategic actions at national and subnational level. The action plan include key evidence-based, cost-effective and high impact interventions in line with WHO recommendations and national strategy on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and sdolescent health 2019–2023.
