11 clinicians and IT experts from the National Centre for Disease Control and medical centres and hospitals across Libya attended the workshop12 December 2017, Tunis – The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control in Libya, conducted a two-day planning workshop on strengthening health information systems for patients living with HIV/AIDS on 8–9 December 2017. The workshop was held in the WHO Libya Office located in Tunis.

The workshop was attended by 11 clinicians and IT experts representing the National Centre for Disease Control, Tripoli Medical Centre, Tripoli Central Hospital, the Benghazi Centre for Immunity Diseases and Infections, Benghazi Medical Centre, and Jamhoria Hospital, Benghazi. The workshop was facilitated by Gert Kaasschieter, System Developer, and Khalid Shams, IT Expert, WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediteranean.

The main objectives of the workshop were to assess the current situation of the already established patient information system and programme management information system, and to plan for the upgrading of the health information system for people living with HIV/AIDS.

At the end of the workshop, a two-year plan was prepared which will be implemented in Libya by WHO through the project entitled “Strengthening health information system and medicine supply chain management” (SHAMS), funded by the European Union.
