Libya concludes World Antibiotic Week activities

Participants at WAAW 2018 LibyaWAAW 2018 concluded successfully in LibyaAl-Bayda 19 December 2018 The World Health Organization (WHO) Libya country office, in collaboration with Libyan health authorities, concluded activities held under the theme “Safeguarding antibiotics - Handle with Care/Think Twice. Seek Advice” as part of World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW).

Activities were designed to raise awareness of the problem of antibiotic resistance among the public and policy-makers, and to highlight the importance of collaboration between human health, animal health and agriculture professionals to ensure the responsible use of antibiotics.

Health professionals, health directors, deans of the faculties of medicine, veterinary medicine and agriculture and faculty members from Al-Bayda’s Omar Al-Mukhtar University participated in the event which included presentations on Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) awareness among the public and the role of animal health and agriculture in combating AMR.

“The Libya country office considers these activities an essential part of the AMR national action plan which we hope will be endorsed by the end of this month,” said Dr Hussein Jaffar, WHO representative and head of mission.
