Participants around a table at the health coordination meeting4 March 2018 – A health sector coordination meeting was held on 22 February 2018 at the WHO Libya country office in Tunis. It was attended by representatives of the Libyan Ministry of Health (Tripoli and Benghazi), WHO Libya, CEFA Italia, CCS Italia, European Union, GVC Italia, IOM, ICRC, IRC Libya, Italian Cooperation, STACO, UNFPA, UNHCR and UNOCHA.

The discussions centred on ways to make the forum more needs-based. Using a groupwork evaluation exercise to elicit suggestions, the assembled health sector stakeholders discussed the forum's coordination mechanism, its terms of reference, and its role in advocacy, standard setting and streamlining.

Participants highlighted a need to revise the terms of reference in light of the upcoming lifting of the evacuation status of the United Nations presence in Libya.

It was also suggested that working sub-groups should be established, for example on reproductive health, nutrition and migrants, and that there be alignment with the humanitarian response plan.

It was felt that the forum should serve as an advocacy platform for health-related strategic plans, the essential package of services, and the adoption of a rights-based approach, thereby promoting the delivery of comprehensive integrated health services.
