Amman, 26 June 2022 – Under the patronage of H.E Dr Feras Hawari, Minister of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) country office in Jordan in collaboration with Ministry of Health, and with the generous support of the European Union Syria Trust Fund, held a workshop to discuss the findings of a primary health care assessment and how it should inform policy on improving the structure and delivery of primary health care in the upcoming Ministry strategic plan 2023–2027. 

The primary health care assessment, carried out late in 2021, was designed to generate evidence on the availability, readiness, accessibility and quality of primary care services in Jordan. 

The workshop was attended by high-level governmental officials, parliamentarians, civil society organizations and international partners. 

“The Government of Jordan affirms its interest in primary health care in accordance with the royal visions, especially the vision of economic modernization, with the importance of strengthening the role of primary health care as the main gateway to providing equal access to health services” the Minister of Health said. 

“I am happy to see that different partners and stakeholders have come together in support of the Ministry of Health and to commit to working together in closer cooperation to strengthen the primary health care system in Jordan” observed Dr Jamela Al-Raiby, WHO Representative to Jordan.

At the conclusion of the workshop, actionable recommendations were agreed, classified into short-, mid- and long- term recommendations, and a consensus was reached on incorporating the priority recommendations within the next Ministry of Health strategic plan.
