Regional meeting attendeesParticipants of the child injury prevention meeting A regional consultation on developing a framework for the implementation of the recommendations of the World Report on Child Injury Prevention was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 26 to 28 September 2011. The meeting represented a collaborative effort between the child health and violence, injuries and disabilities programmes in the WHO Regional Office. The consultation was attended by representatives of child health and injury prevention programmes in ministries of health in countries, the League of Arab States and independent experts.

Discussions centred around common issues, such as lack of complete and reliable data on mortality and morbidity, absence of/problematic appropriate age grouping, particularly after 14 years of age and available data on road traffic injuries. Participants also discussed the strategic framework on child and adolescent injury prevention in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and research priorities.

By the end of the meeting national plans of action for child and adolescent injury prevention for 2012 had been developed.
