Second Asia Pacific Community-based Rehabilitation Congress

The National Council on Disability Affairs of the Philippines hosted the second Asia Pacific Community-based Rehabilitation Congress in Manila, the Philippines, from 29 November to 1 December 2011, with the participation of 65 countries and a number of international organizations, including the World Health Organization, Australian Government (AusAID), CBM and others.

The Congress was inaugurated by President Benigno Aquino III, who highlighted the importance of social justice for people with disabilities. Dr Soe Nyunt-U, WHO Representative in the Philipines, presented WHO's work in the field of disability and rehabilitation, and, jointly with Ms Chiyo Kanda, Acting World Bank Country Manager, officially handed over the World Report on Disability to the President.

At the end of the Congress, participants passed the Manila community-based rehabilitation resolution, which will be implemented by the Community-based Rehabilitation Asia Pacific Network and its supporters over the next four years.
