No new human cases of cVDPV types 2 or 3 have been reported in the Horn of Africa since the previous situation report. The total remains 12 cases of paralysis (5 cVDPV2, 6 cVDPV3 and one coinfection), all in Somalia.

Two new environmental isolates positive for cVDPV2 have been reported since the previous situation report in Somalia, with date of collection on 11 October. This brings the total number of environmental cVDPV2 isolates to 20 in 2017 and 2018. The cVDPV3 total remains 10.

In November, Nairobi played host to the African Regional Certification Commission, the Outbreak Response Assessment and the Technical Advisory Group meeting for the Horn of Africa. A summary of their recommendations can be found in this report.
