Management practices are important in all health care settings. Strengthening the management capabilities within the health system is being increasingly seen as a critical strategy for improving the performance of health care delivery and building health systems. With the growing recognition of the essential role of health management in health services, health care providers are adopting management practices that strengthen and complement clinical activities and that aim to improve the outcomes of health services.

As part of its work in strengthening health care delivery and health management support in the Region, EMRO is launching the Management Effectiveness Initiatives website. The site aims to cover major aspects of health management that improve the way in which services are delivered dealing with aspects of hospital accreditation, patient safety, quality assurance, family practice, evidence-based medicine, decentralization, hospital autonomy and specific initiatives of countries of the Region including the Management Effectiveness Programme and Community Health Management.

Through the website, EMRO is working to share experiences that have proved successful in strengthening management practices of health system and in so doing, advocate for the use of a management approach for developing health services. The site will further act as a resource with access to assessment tools and learning curricula in health management for both ministries of health, health managers and health care professionals in the Region.
