Medical supplies airlifted to Libya

7 September 2022. Today, the World Health Organization (WHO), with support from the International Humanitarian City in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, airlifted the first of three shipments of emergency medical supplies to Benghazi airport in Libya. The supplies will help health facilities respond to health needs across the country, particularly in the south where the situation continues to deteriorate.

The shipment comprises more than 23 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies such as personal protective equipment, emergency health kits, burns kits, anaesthetics, and essential medicines and supplies to diagnose and treat patients with tuberculosis. The shipment has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the European Union, the Government of Germany and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Head of Mission and WHO Representative in Libya, Ms Elizabeth Hoff, welcomed this support, saying, “This shipment is the first of several emergency airlifts to arrive in the next few weeks. It comes at a critical time. It will help enable WHO to reach the most vulnerable people in the country with essential medical assistance.”
