27 November 2016 – The WHO country office in Egypt organized training on acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) for surveillance officers under the national Expanded Programme on Immunization, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and Population, in Sharm El-Sheikh, from 19 to 24 November 2016.

About 50 participants from national and subnational levels responsible for AFP surveillance activities attended the training as well as WHO technical staff from the regional polio programme who actively facilitated the training programme. The training examined the global and regional polio situation, in addition to looking at the latest WHO Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Dr Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative in Egypt, inaugurated the training and highlighted WHO's role in reducing disability, morbidity and mortality and strengthening the EPI through the conducting of workshops and training programmes to build technical capacity.
