Speakers at the launch of Egypt's road safety projectSpeakers at the launch of Egypt's road safety projectEgypt is one of 10 low- and middle-income countries included in a five-year “Road safety in 10 countries” project, which aims to reduce road traffic-related injuries and deaths in the 10 participating countries. The project is funded through a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, and is being implemented by a range of multisectoral national partners under WHO's coordination, with technical support provided by a consortium of road safety partners consisting of the Global Road Safety Partnership, the International Injury Research Center from Johns Hopkins University and the Association for Safe International Road Travel.

The launch was held on 11 July 2011 under the auspices of the Prime Minister, organized by National Road Safety Council in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Transport, other ministries and national partners, General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transfer and nongovernmental organizations.

The launch was also attended by the consortium partners, representative from Bloomberg Philanthropies, WHO, ministers, heads of governmental and nongovernmental organizations, youth groups as well as UN agencies, ambassadors of the RS10 countries and other high-level dignitaries. The event was held with significant media presence and multi-media coverage.
