Egypt_celebrates_United_Nations_Day10 November 2016 – The WHO country office in Egypt participated in the celebration to commemorate the anniversary of the day that the United Nations officially came into being.

This year’s observance of United Nations Day occurs at a time when humanity has entered the era of sustainability, with a global commitment to fulfil the great promise of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are part of this comprehensive agenda for the next 15 years. These are important, world-changing objectives that require cooperation among governments, international organizations and world leaders.

This year, the United Nations Resident Coordinator Mr Mostafa Balmileh, in partnership with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Sameh Shoukry, organized the celebration of the Day with the participation of United Nations agencies in Egypt for substantiation of the partnership between the United Nations and Egypt for Peace, Security and SGDs.

At this event, Dr Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative in Egypt, introduced some of the successful projects of the country office, especially the Egyptian experience in combating hepatitis C and supportive projects to access health care services for Syrian refugees in Egypt.
