31 October 2016 | Cairo – The WHO country office in Egypt and the General Quarantine Department, Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt, are working together to strengthen International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) public health core capacities at designated points in frontier and concerned governorates. 6 training workshops have been conducted for health care workers and surveillance officers at the biggest 14 airports, seaports and ground crossing in the country.

The main goal of the training has been to enhance emergency preparedness, surveillance and response at designated points and to understand the main legal procedures under the IHR. 

The courses relied on a problem-solving approach to facilitate the learning of principal components for health risk assessment. Training was based on a participatory approach that offered participants a step-by-step approach to acquire the knowledge and skills they need for the tasks involved for traveller arrival.
