6 August 2019 – A National Training Workshop on Health Impact Assessment of Air Pollution was organized by the WHO Regional Centre for Environmental Health Action (CEHA) in collaboration with the Environmental Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health, on 6-8 August 2019 in Amman, Jordan. The workshop aimed to provide technical support to ministries interested in improving air quality and assessing air pollution techniques, and to brainstorm with participants about indoor air pollution in Jordan.

The workshop highlighted the basics of health risk assessment and the burden of disease due to indoor and outdoor air pollution and trained participants on AirQ+ software, which is a tool designed to calculate the magnitude of the burden and impacts of air pollution on health in a given population. Several devices were used to demonstrate measurements of indoor air pollution.

The workshop was attended by around 30 delegates from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, Royal Scientific Society, Jordan Medical Association, Jordan University Hospital, and other directorates.

The workshop resulted in two recommendations on the need to establish a multi-stakeholder taskforce to follow up on health impact assessment of air pollution in Jordan and the need for a national meeting to address all issues related to air quality and health.
