Ministers of health in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region have expressed their concern about the growth of the HIV and sexually transmitted infection epidemics in the Region. They have expressed their commitment to an evidence-based response from the health sector on several occasions by endorsing resolutions calling for action.

In 2020, HIV prevalence in the Region was 0.1%, which can be characterized as low epidemic. Global prevalence was 0.7%.
