Health ministers and high-level representatives of the 22 countries and territories of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, partner organizations and civil society, will take part in the Sixty-third Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, in Cairo, Egypt, from 3 to 6 October 2016.

Key technical health issues on this year's agenda will include:

scaling up family practice: progressing towards universal health coverage

assistive technologies for all

strategic frameworks for strengthening health laboratories and blood transfusion services.

The 4-day programme will also include progress reports on: eradication of poliomyelitis; emerging and re-emerging diseases, including dengue and dengue; haemorrhagic fever; prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases; implementation of the International Health Regulations; universal health coverage and the development of a package of essential health services. These reports provide updates on implementation of resolutions approved by the Regional Committee at previous sessions.

Technical briefings and ministerial lunches offer additional opportunities to discuss technical agenda items.
