Image shows photo of a no smoking sign on one end of a scales of justice with cigarettes tipping the other end.Strong legislation is needed at national level to strengthen implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). The Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean works closely with countries to align national legislation with the WHO FCTC and its guidelines.

This ensures that tobacco control policies are not being undermined by the tobacco industry, and guarantees better protection for the public and enhanced use of national resources. Moving forward towards successful implementation of the WHO FCTC cannot be achieved without effective enforcement, regular monitoring and collaboration between countries to share and learn from each others’ experiences.
