WHO has been working with the Ministry of Health and Population, Egyptian universities, research institutes and hospitals to promote the Patient Safety friendly Hospital Initiative.

WHO has collaborated with various partners to establish the Alexandria Patient Safety Alliance, which represents an alliance between the various health care stakeholders in Alexandria.

From 2010 to 2011, WHO implemented a work plan in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population to expand implementation of the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative in six hospitals in three governorates as a pilot for potential implementation in all Egypt in 2012–2013.

Nurses have been trained in hospitals and primary health care centres on patient safety and guidelines for nurses on patient safety developed and implemented.
