In October 2007, the Regional Committee of the Eastern Mediterranean expressed concern at the burden imposed by neglected tropical diseases. The Regional Committee issued resolution EM/RC54/R.3 to give priority to the control of neglected tropical diseases, to scale up prevention and control and to strengthen partnerships at global, regional and national level.
