On 30 April 2012, the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean presented the final draft of the “Regional strategic plan on cutaneous leishmaniasis” and the “Guidelines for the case management of cutaneous leishmaniasis”. This is the first time that a strategic plan and guidelines have been developed for the Eastern Mediterranean Region and their development represents an opportunity to address the problem of cutaneous leishmaniasis in a more strategic and comprehensive way.
