A workshop on IHR implementation and monitoring of core capacities in the Eastern Mediterranean Region took place in Cairo, Egypt, from 5 to 7 December 2011 organized by the Regional Office. The objectives of the workshop were to:

assist countries in completing the requested information in WHO tools for monitoring implementation of the IHR core capacities;

hold a tabletop exercise on how to meet the core capacities required for IHR implementation by June 2012;

provide training on mechanisms for collaboration in sharing information and instituting appropriate interventions during a potential public health emergency of international concern.
