Assessment of core capacities and action plans for IHR implementation in Iraq

A meeting was held in Amman, Jordan, in March 2009 to assess core capacities and development of IHR action plans for Iraq. Participants included technical experts from the WHO country office, Regional Office and IHR Coordination. Specific objectives included:

identifying core capacities to support IHR implementation at the local community and/or primary public health response level and at the intermediate and national levels;

providing guidance on the use of assessment tools;

identifying ways to integrate IHR requirements into existing public health laws in Iraq; 

reaching a consensus on the IHR core capacity requirements for points of entry in the country.
