Cholera count reaches 500 000 in Yemen
16 August 201714 AUGUST 2017 | GENEVA - The total number of suspected cholera cases in Yemen this year hit the half a million mark on Sunday, and nearly 2000 people have died since the outbreak began to spread rapidly at the end of April. -
WHO and partners, including UNICEF, scale up efforts to minimize spread of acute watery diarrhoea/cholera in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

Jumbo jet lands in war-torn Yemen carrying 67 tonnes of cholera response supplies
25 May 201725 May 2017 – A World Health Organization-chartered aircraft carrying intravenous fluids and cholera kits has successfully landed at Sana’a airport in Yemen. At 67 tonnes, it constitutes the largest planeload of medical goods WHO has brought into the country since the escalation of the conflict in March 2015. -
Somalia launches second cholera vaccination campaign in Baidoa

WHO conducts joint mission to Baidoa to review cholera support
24 April 2017April 24, 2017 – WHO Representative for Somalia Dr Ghulam Popal and Somalia’s Minister of Health and Social Services H.E. Dr Fawziya Abikar conducted a visit to Baidoa, along with national, regional and local health officials, to assess the cholera situation and outbreak response in South West State. The high-level mission aimed to demonstrate the commitment of WHO and the Ministry of Health to outbreak and drought response activities in the state, and included visits to cholera treatment centres (CTCs) in Baidoa and Bayhow hospitals. -
Second round cholera vaccination campaign starts in Somalia

WHO emergency response team visits cholera patients at Banadir Hospital
06 April 20176 April 2017 – The WHO emergency response team and Ministry of Health officials visited cholera patients at the Banadir Hospital cholera treatment centre (CTC) in Mogadishu to review care activities, available services and assess support needs. The visit was hosted by Dr Luul Hassan, head of the Banadir Hospital CTC, which has been providing cholera care in the region for more than 20 years. -

WHO's cholera response in Yemen
24 November 2016Sana'a, 28 November 2016 — To date, 7001 suspected cases of cholera, including 72 associated deaths were reported in Sana’a City and Aden, Amran, Al Hudaydah, Al-Bayda‘a, Al-Dhale’a, Ibb, Hajjah, Lahij, Ta’izz and Sana’a governorates. Of these, 113 cases have been laboratory-confirmed as Vibrio cholerae. -

A total of US$22.35 million is required by the Health and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene clusters, of which US$ 16.6 million is immediately required.
