The WHO Regional Centre for Environmental Health Action (CEHA) held a regional course on chemical exposure and trauma care from 11 to 13 Novemnber 2013 in Amman, Jordan, in close cooperation with WHO Iraq and UK-Med, a UK based consultancy firm. This was the second round of regional training for health care first responders and managers in the Ministry of Health in Iraq on trauma and chemical exposure events.

The 3-day course was based on an interactive and simulative training methodology. The training composed of two modules, one dedicated to awareness-raising on chemical incidents in general, and the second component for first responders and health practitioners.

The course accommodated participants from Iraq and other WHO country offices, aiming at enhancing the capacity of participants in areas related to trauma care as well as the management of patients that have been exposed to chemical release. CEHA is very well prepared to deliver standard packages of training pertinent to chemical accidents and trauma care, as part of the regional office’s efforts to roll out deliver such capacity-building activities.
