WHO multi-professional patient safety curriculum guide in the Region, 11–12 March 2012

Regional launch ceremony of the WHO multi-professional patient safety curriculum guide in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Muscat, Oman, 11-12 March 2012The multi-professional patient safety curriculum guide was launched in Muscat, Oman, in March 2012. The event was inaugurated by H.E. Dr Mubarak Ben Saleh Al Khodoury, Special Representative of HRH Sultan Qaboos Ben Said, H.E. the Minister of Health of Oman, H.E. the Minister of Higher Education of Oman, Dr Ali Bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University and the WHO Representative in Oman.

Over 300 policy- and decision-makers from Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Yemen participated in the event, which witnessed the signing of endorsements from 30 institutions. Representatives were from the national associations, universities, hospitals and faculty from Sultan Qaboos University. The workshop focused on the tools and implementation strategy of the newly-developed curriculum guide as well as country experiences and anticipated plans for patient safety education.

The guide will be piloted in Egypt and Jordan and a framework developed for implementation of the curriculum guide in countries of the Region.
