31 March 2023 – WHO has delivered a $1.5M shipment of critical medicines and medical supplies to Al-Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem through the generous support of UAE Aid.

The shipment will help in plugging critical gaps in need to support the continuity of lifesaving health care at the hospital, which is currently facing disruption in services due to persisting shortages.

“The medicines and supplies provided through UAE Aid support are a lifeline for patients needing urgent health services, particularly those from Gaza and the West Bank as Al Makassed is one of the main hospitals providing referral services for Palestinians,” said Dr. Rik Peeperkorn, Representative of WHO in the occupies Palestinian territory.

This shipment is part of a larger package of support being provided to Al-Makaseed Hospital under a $25M agreement signed between the UAE and WHO.

More medical supplies and equipment are expected to be delivered over the coming months.

“We thank the UAE Aid for the generous and timely support and appeal to the international community to do more to support Al-Makasseed Hospital, the East Jerusalem Hospital Network, and the health sector in Palestine. A protracted crisis needs an ongoing response" said Dr. Peeperkorn.
