Dr Jean Yaacoub Jabbour took up the assignment of WHO Representative for Oman on 1 September 2020. Before, Dr Jabbour held the post of the WHO Representative in Egypt and in Libya. Dr Jabbour started his career in WHO as a Manager of Noncommunicable Diseases Programme, WHO Country Office, Lebanon. Dr Jabbour joined WHO EMRO in 2003 where he held different posts, including Surveillance Officer for Tuberculosis, Medical Officer for Emerging Infections and Regional Adviser for the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) programme.

Prior to joining the WHO, Dr Jabbour taught the principles of Epidemiology at the American University of Beirut, Faculty of Health Sciences. Afterwards, Dr Jabbour headed the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (ESU), at MoH Lebanon. Dr Jabbour contributed to strengthening public health in the EMR. Dr Jabbour is a founding member of the Lebanese Epidemiological Association. Dr Jabbour is a medical epidemiologist by training.
