Emergency Preparedness and Response - The WHO-EU-Ministry of Health Project

 Oman was selected by a WHO - European Union (EU) team to implement the WHO-EU Project on bio-safety and bio-security.  The aim of this project was to strengthen national capacity of the country to fulfill its obligations under the International Health Regulations (IHR) in two areas: all hazards public health emergency management and upgrading laboratory organization and competence for bio-safety and bio-security.  The Project has allowed the following actions:

 

§  A country assessment of public health emergency preparedness and response as well as  laboratory bio-safety and bio-security;

§  Establishment of four accredited national courses on various aspects of emergency and IHR implementation;

§  Installation of essential IT and laboratory equipment; 

§  Introduction of two innovative frameworks, relating to Vulnerability and Risk Analysis and Mapping as well as Health Facility Safety.
