Two WHO missions visited Oman in October 2014 focusing on health care quality. The first mission, from 13 to 23 October 2014, assisted in revising the clinical quality indicators and training hospital-based quality assurance staff on hospital performance indicators. The workshop also provided the opportunity to establish a framework for hospital performance assessment programme and review the existing hospital performance indicators. A detailed plan was developed to refine the system, including improving the electronic data collection methods in the coming year.

The second mission, from 26 to 30 October 2014, review the risk management processes within the Patient Safety Programme. As part of the review, a one-day training on healthcare risk managements was conducted for hospital management and quality assurance personnel from all major hospitals in the country. Although a patient safety programme is well-established, the review recommended the development of a national health care quality and patient safety strategy that includes a component of risk management.
