Sultan Qaboos University Hospital visit to WHO country office

_DSC123422 June 2021 – Dr Khalifa Al Wahaibi, Director General of Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, visited the WHO country office in Oman to meet with WHO Representative Dr Jean Jabbour on 2 June 2021 to explore potential areas for collaboration and partnership between Sultan Qaboos University Hospital and WHO.

Dr Jabbour highlighted the importance of building strategic partnership and expanding collaboration with different public health entities and service providers, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2 parties discussed health issues of mutual interest and the establishment of support systems, such as building capacities on public health management and leadership through residential programmes in public health.

Potential areas for collaboration also included establishing tobacco cessation services and a helpline for higher education students, building capacity in research and the development of publications, and collaborating in health promotion activities. WHO is keen to strengthen collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University Hospital as its work aligns with WHO's mandate and scope of work in the country.

The Sultan Qaboos University Hospital is a tertiary public teaching hospital in Muscat, the capital, that works in different aspects of care, including treatment, education and research.
