Muscat, 22 May 2014 – Four years ago, the Ministry of Health, Oman, in close collaboration with WHO, embarked on establishing a Good Governance for Medicines (GGM) programme to improve transparency and accountability within the pharmaceutical sector. Oman has since conducted a comprehensive assessment and a WHO mission was sent to Oman, from 19 to 22 May 2014, to assist in the completion of the second phase, developing a national GGM framework.

The WHO GGM programme was launched in 2004 to assist countries in strengthening health systems and preventing corruption. The framework for GGM implementation has three phases: 1) national transparency assessment; 2) development of a national GGM framework; and 3) implementation of a national GGM programme. Oman is one of 36 countries participating in the WHO GGM programme.
