The WHO Oman country office hosted a videoconference for a regional disability consultation in 23 October 2013. The consultation brought together regional and global experts to discuss a WHO regional action plan based on the evidence in the World report on disability and in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the report of the High-level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on Disability and Development.

The consultation was one of numerous activities planned by WHO to implement the resolution on disability (WHA66.9) passed at the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly in 2013. This resolution calls for better health care for people with disabilities and encourages Member States to:

make all mainstream health services inclusive of people with disabilities

provide more support to informal caregivers

ensure that people with disabilities have access to rehabilitation services that can enable them to achieve their full potential and have the same opportunities as others to participate fully in society.
