Malaria treatment policy

A WHO mission to review the national malaria treatment protocol took place from 8 to 12 December 2013.  The mission noted that the current treatment policy in Oman is up to date and in line with the current WHO recommendations. The guidelines will be finalized shortly and then disseminated throughout the country.

Over the past 30 years, Oman has made extraordinary efforts to address malaria. Once a major public health problem, the risk of malaria transmission is now mainly related to importation by migrant workers. Despite the dramatic reduction, the Ministry of Health remains vigilant and all episodes of malaria are actively followed up to ensure cure and prevent transmission.
