A one-week WHO mission from 19 to 23 May 2012 was conducted to provide technical support to the Ministry of Health of Oman to facilitate a training workshop for nongovernmental organizations and people living with HIV (PLHIV).

The workshop addressed the root causes of stigma and discrimination in Oman's national context and developed a team of empowered PLHIV. The mission also facilitated the sharing of experiences between nongovernmental organizations and community-based organizations from neighbouring countries with local nongovernmental organizations and PLHIV, in addition to discussion forums with the media and health care providers.

The outcome of the mission included a detailed one-year plan for the core group of PLHIV and recommendations to sustain a support group for PLHIV.
