Nutrition is a fundamental pillar of life, health and development across the entire lifespan. Better nutrition is essential for survival, physical growth, mental development, performance and productivity, health and well-being.

Freedom from hunger and malnutrition is a basic human right and their alleviation is a fundamental prerequisite for human and national development.

The aim of WHO’s work in nutrition is to prevent, reduce and eliminate malnutrition in all its forms worldwide, thereby promoting a sustainable health and well being of all peoples, accelerating poverty reduction and fostering human and national development.
