On January 25 and 26 2012 in Rabat, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the American National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) organized a regional consultation on the “Decade of Vaccines Collaboration” (collaboration as part of the Decade of Vaccines). The consultation brought together international experts in the field, from several countries representing the five continents. It looked at the analysis of the six goals set for the decade, namely:

All countries commit to making immunization a priority;

Individuals and communities understand the importance of immunization and establish real demand;

The benefits of immunization can be accessed more equitably by an even bigger population;

The immunization programmes are integrated with reinforced health systems;

The immunization programmes have funding and long-term high-quality procurement in the long term;

Efforts are deployed at world, regional and national level in research and development maximizing the advantages of immunization.

It is important to remember that the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration, an initiative under the auspices of the World Health Organization, should enable the development of the most appropriate in-depth vision for the implementation of a Worldwide Action Plan for Vaccines up to 2020 and beyond. The goal of the plan is to offer a world in which all individuals and populations take advantage of a life untroubled by diseases that can be avoided by immunization.

The success of the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration assumes collaboration across society as a whole.
