Photo credit: Dr Fahmy BahgatThe WHO country office is currently supporting the Ministry of Health in restructuring its medical devices and technologies unit. The main objectives of its efforts include:
developing technical specifications for medical devices tendering and procurement process;
developing basic and advanced training programmes for national medical equipment engineers and technician;
developing a comprehensive inventory and computerized maintenance management system for better functionality of available technologies and quality of clinical services;
establishing relationships and contacts with regional centres of excellence;
performing adequate needs assessment for future medical devices needs in the country;
providing technical and administrative assistance for the setting up a national centre for training and maintenance of medical equipment in Libya.
These developments will ensure a sustained effort by the Ministry of Health to make its medical device regulatory process more efficient.
