Health care increasingly out of reach for Syrians in eastern Aleppo City

5 August 2016 – While the demand for medical care increases in eastern Aleppo City, especially for severe war-related injuries, escalating violence and besiegement of the city has resulted in reduced availability of health care services due to attacks on health facilities, shortages of health care workers, and limited medicines and medical supplies. In July 2016 alone, there were 22 confirmed attacks on health care facilities in Aleppo. According to local health authorities, 8 out of 10 hospitals and 13 out of 28 primary health care centres are now partially functional or out of service as a result of these attacks.
