Vector control interventions are effective and cost-effective in the control of vector-borne diseases.

Vector-borne diseases are diseases that are caused by pathogens transmitted through the infectious bite of mosquitoes, sandflies or blackflies, or via snails. Most countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region are endemic for multiple vector-borne diseases. Sudan and Yemen face the largest number of such diseases.
