The Malaria and Vector-borne and Tropical Diseases (MVT) unit provides technical support to countries of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region for the control, elimination and prevention of reintroduction of malaria.
The MVT unit also provides technical support and guidance on implementation of integrated vector surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases and tropical diseases.

Epidemiological situation
While 94% of global malaria cases occur in the WHO African Region, the WHO Eastern Mediterranean had an estimated 11.1 million cases and 22 000 deaths in 2024.
