The underserved
Up to
70 % of outpatient services are
provided by the private health
sector in the Region
Not everyone in the Region has access to needed
health services. The quality of services remains
questionable, which can result in exposure to unsafe
care. The private health sector is growing with minimal
policy direction and regulation and it is hardly a part
of governments’ health sector planning processes.
Health services are seriously affected in emergency
situations, which are widespread in the Region.
